Good day, everybody!

As you read this, I’m just wrapping up a great holiday visit with family and friends in New York City – part of the inspiration for our ongoing NYC access guide here at Disabled Travelers. I don’t have quite as much time as usual, but I thought I’d make a quick post pointing out some great sites that might be of interest to readers of the blog. Particularly, I wanted to point out great 2010 offerings from some well-established tour operators and mention some places where you can get in-depth disabled traveling tips and reviews. If your New Year’s resolution is to travel more, you’ve come to the right place!

In addition to being a great tour operator, World on Wheelz is one of the best general information websites for handicapped travelers. The website includes travel reviews with in-depth, detailed reviews and plenty of photographs; it’s really like reading a travelogue especially for travel with a disability. Their reviews so far cover Europe, the Caribbean, Australia, Canada, and the United States – including Hawaii. Definitely worth a look, and don’t miss the 2010 group tours including Ireland, Portugal, and Spain.

Rolling Rains Report is a website all about inclusive tourism, universal design, and mobility impaired access. It not only includes disabled travel reports but the latest in news and information on the quest to ensure equitable access for all handicapped travelers. This is a great resource with a real sense of social justice and will give you a lot to think about as well as plenty of entertaining content. Check out the travelogue section for specific destinations, services, and providers.

Global Access News is another terrific source for on-site travel reportage from the handicapped travel perspective. This online publication includes an archive going all the way back to 2000. Since that time, the site has been providing a monthly digest of news related to disability access on the go. This usually includes the latest news, relevant legal cases, and a few reviews on destinations, accessible hotels, or tour operators. The email “digest” version, which you can subscribe to, also ties in with in-depth articles on the website. Very highly recommended.

And of course, one of the favorites around here is Accessible Journeys. There’s a lot of good to be said about a tour operator that’s been doing wheelchair accessible itineraries since 1985 – and they have great new trips all the time. Offerings have included such great spots as New Zealand, South Africa, Buenos Aires, Chile. Accessible Journeys offers group tours, independent travel planning, and much more.

Well, I have to start packing, so that’s it for today! A bit later on, I’ll be back for more news and reviews from the best in wheelchair travel and more. Until then, let me take the chance to thank you all for reading, and give you that tried-and-true advice that’s always worked for me: keep adventuring! I’ll write again when I get back down south where it’s warm!
