A CHARITY, which organizes holidays for seriously ill and disabled people, has opened a new caravan at an Exmouth holiday park.

The Dream-A-Way charity’s £32,000 specially-adapted luxury holiday home is at Devon Cliffs Holiday Park and takes the organization’s fleet up to six caravans at the resort.

The new caravan was officially opened by Exeter schoolgirl Ashleigh Montgomery, 14, who sufferers from Hurlers syndrome.

Ashleigh – who is visually impaired and has mobility and breathing problems – and her family enjoyed a break at Devon Cliffs in 2000, shortly after her sister Charley was born.

Her mum, Helen, said she recognized the importance of having a holiday, especially for families with someone who needs special care.

She said: “The benefits of having a holiday cannot be under-estimated and having the chance to relax away from home can make all the difference. However, we’ve found that things are not always that easy. Recently, we looked into returning to Florida, where Ashleigh has been twice, and we were quoted £1,000 travel insurance, which is too expensive.

“So being able to have a holiday nearer to home with all the facilities available is certainly a great help.”

A spokesperson for Haven Holidays, which provides free leisure and entertainment passes to those using the Dream-A-Way caravans, said: “We are delighted to be associated with this highly worthwhile charity.”

Dream-A-Way chairman Jeff Merrett MBE added: “This luxury caravan is paid for from some of our successful fundraising last year.
